A lovely neo-Baroque building that while seemingly placid and proud was the center of controversy when it was completed. At the time, the building sported a large cupola at its prominent corner. While stylistically pleasing, some saw it as an affront to the Michaelerkirche across the way. Since the building was initially intended to be a nobleman's palace with some ancillary residential facilities, it makes sense that its ornamentation would be a little over-the-top. But in the 1930's, the building was renovated and the cupola removed to give it a more modest appearance.
