T his could be where the world begins, or ends; depending on your view. It is where the prime meridian was established and runs from there to the north and south poles. The red ball on top of the building signifies Greenwich Mean Time, and every day at exactly 1:00pm, it falls from the top of the spire to the bottom. You can also stand with one foot in the eastern and one foot in the western hemisphere, if you like. Sailors in the Thames have set their watches and clocks by it since 1883. The current Royal Naval Observatory is in Sussex
